Have just started using a new computer with Windows 8 (ugh!). Firefox is wonderful has stopped all sorts of crud that seems to come wrapped with Explorer. I have loaded and set up Thunderbird (with 3 separate email accounts )which worked well for just under a day and is now mostly not responding, as well as not recognising the password for one account. (I can still lift mail on this through webmail). I have uninstalled and re-installed Thunderbird, but it just automatically re-loaded the addresses and failed to function. I have performed a free malware scan with bitdefender which says 'no problem', also have McAfee installed.

Any ideas? I would like to get this working as I worry that Windows provided solutions are increasingly used for information collection purposes.

Many thanks,

Timdw

Did you try to clear the cookies?

Also make sure that you allow Thunderbird in your security software (try to remove all rules and let the firewall ask again for permission).

Many thanks for your response. The bad news is that I am having sch trouble adjusting to Windows 8 that I haven't been able to figure oit how to carry out the suggestions. The good news is that it is working at the moment. Rest assured that I appreciate your reply.
