Can I save my pass words to an external file and how?

I would like to save all the passwords (saved in Firefox) to an external file. I do not like duplicating them to my laptop.

To copy the passwords you need to copy 2 files, key3,db and signons.sqlite in the profile folder (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox). You can copy those 2 files to the profile folder on the laptop to make it have the same passwords that are on the desktop. Those 2 files need to be kept together.

A couple of alternative approaches.

You can use the Password Exporter extension to export the passwords to a file, and import that file on the other computer, you need to add the extension to both computers - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/password-exporter

Another option is to use the Firefox Sync add-on to synchronize the passwords. This add-on can also synchronize bookmarks, history, open tabs and some preferences. You need to install the extension in Firefox 3.6, but it will be built into Firefox 4 - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firefox-sync
