I have Windows 10 with gmail and thunderbird. I had a virus delivered by a Juno update, Froze freezer, I can receive mail but can't send it. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. tn5sm28752851pac.32 - gsmtp. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again.

For the Gmail outgoing server you need: Server name: smtp.gmail.com Connection Security: SSL/TLS Port: 465 Authentication: OAuth2

Just curious, what prevented you from finding the Troubleshooting Information based on Matt's instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1112106#answer-849802 ?

- Open Help (or click on three-line-icon and select Help)
- Choose Troubleshooting Information
- Use the button Copy to clipboard to select all. Do not check box "Include account names"!
- Paste this in your post.
Thanks Matt for your reply, I could not find troubleshooting and my 3 line logo at top right of page..has no help nor troubleshooting.. I love Thunderbird... I'm 77,,, no longer travel and building pretty stationery from ground up is my savior to eat up my days... No other program does this for me.. None are as equal...
I have deleted the program and reinstalled but didn't help.. I have found gmail is fine... so it is my Thunderbird...
Any more suggestions... You know some grandmothers have a gifted computer person in the family... I am the GIFTED one in my family...and always helping the friends and family fix their computers...

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the Copy text to clipboard button and paste the information into your reply.

Matt did a good job... I clicked the 3 line logo here on this website and other places...but not ON MY THUNDERBIRD PROGRAM. That was my fault. He is not at fault... just this old lady!!
