How do I prevent files from auto-opening when I click on them to download?

I need to download audio files automatically instead of opening them. That's the way things worked until an add on update. Now when I click audio files they open in a new window and play. This isn't what I need them to do. I've tried several options and nothing helped.

hello wlbqam, enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named media.windows-media-foundation.enabled. double-click it and change its value to false - this will also disable native html5 playback support for mpeg formats that are embedded into websites though.

another way to download the files without tweaking the preference mentioned above would be to right-click the files and choose to download the like that...
