Firefox 10.2 on Lion does not have Import&Backup under Show All Bookmarks nor Import Wizard under File and the option to import when installing Firefox did not work. Private browsing is not on. How do you import bookmarks?

You can find the Import menu entry in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)

I saw the import icon. It does not let me drag or import complete folders from Safari like Safari does. I can drag a whole 145 folders and html to Safari and they automatically install into Safari from my desktop. They will not do that with Firefox and that is not a solution.

Import and Backup is the third (last) button on the toolbar in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) that looks like a star.
Other platforms show the text label, but on Mac you only see toolbar icons.

Not on my Mac (Lion 10.7.3 and Firefox 10.0.2). Under Bookmarks Toolbar are 2 buttons, "Most Visited" and "Getting Started" and nothing else like icons.

Thanks. I was successful in copying my bookmarks. I wonder who decided to put it there where it is not intuitively found.

@jcmt:

You need to open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) to get access to those toolbar buttons.

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks

Sorry to repeat myself but I get no Import button in Library Window. Nor is it shown in the illustrations of Mozilla Support "Working with your Bookmarks in the Library Window". Lion 10.7.3 and Firefox 10.0.2. Am I misunderstanding something?

At the top of the Bookmarks Manager there are 3 buttons (Organize,Views,Import & Backup) on the toolbar next to the Back and Forward button.

  • The first (gear) button is the Organize button with basic edit menu items for bookmarks
  • The second button is the Views button that allows to change the sort order for viewing purposes (doesn't sort permanently).
  • The third (star) button is the Import & Backup button that allows to backup and restore a JSON backup and import and export an HTML backup and import bookmarks from other browsers.

You can see that "Import & Backup" button in this image:

Aha! At last I see what you are getting at. The word "toolbar" was not used in your initial replies and I am afraid it did not register when you started using it later on. Further confused by the Firefox Help page about Importing Bookmarks shows the Star Button with accompanying text "Import and Backup" which of course I do not have until the button is pressed. Yes I have got it and it works. Apologies for being so slow to understand your advice. Thanks.
