When ever I launch firefox my screen glitches up. Lots of black dots all over the screen, and this only happens when I attempt to execute firefox. No other software causes this.

I have an issue with firefox. What happens is when I attempt to launch it my screen goes all crazy with black dots, and even after I close firefox the glitch remains.

This even happens when I try to access its properties. Any interaction with this software causes screen issues, and I'm not sure what to make of it.

Lots of black dots all over the screen, only in Firefox

Are the actually dots or are they rectangles with hex digits in them 0-9, A-F. If that is what you see or any other characters instead of letters or symbols you expect to see. That could be the web page, or it could be your font settings.

Tools > Options > Content > Advanced

Fonts for: Western
[x] Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selection above
Default Character Encoding: Western (ISO-8859-15)

You should be providing the web page url and where to look so others can look at what you are looking at, or have a better idea if they are providing the correct answer.

You also mentioned "It first started when I installed and played civilization V" in the "More system details".

No its mixed colors and black dots/lines. No letters. I think its a virus though, because now my anti virus won't turn on.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
