Yahoo WebMail and android app work as expected - send and receive
I have TOGGLED Yahoo's "trusted app" feature
There is no CALL yahoo mail support
Community members have identical problem https://forums.yahoo.net/t5/Receiving/Login-to-server-imap-mail-yahoo-com-failed-Using-Thunderbird-on/m-p/271162#M345 I do not understand the "plain text" comment - but I have been using TBird successfully for a over a year
screenshot is Yahoo help page troubleshooting steps (already did them before I saw the page - not my first rodeo)
I had seen your linked page prior to posting here - the MAP has only a "faint" area indicated near to my house in N. Dallas to the WNW
It is not rocket science. If you input the correct setting into Thunderbird it will connect to the providers server if it is operational.
Comparing webmail to using IMAP and SMTP server is pretty much meaningless. The only thing it proves is that you know your username and password.
While you are at the site I linked to take a look at AOL. It is having the same problem and they are now the same company run by Verizon.

I know - it is not brain surgery either
Yahoo has security features that TBird does not support = one is App specific password which cannot be completed because it does not have the Yahoo controls feature
I am guessing that it is possibly a perfect storm SPECTRUM Cable has a known problem "email" greeting in their robo- greeting - I assume that it is THEIR email system, not ALL email VERIZON is a competing ISP, maybe they are having a war
I saw in an earlier post here that the current TBird build was because of something similar with Gmail - could be that WebMail will have to do for a bit

FWIW, I was able to setup the very same account with no hiccups in Windows 10 Mail app in under a minute,
so the odds are great that it is TBird - a few have mentioned TBird in both of our links
- Yahoo WebMail works in Firefox
- Yahoo Android app works
- Windows 10 Mail App works
- Thunderbird "obtains" Yahoo server setup both from Mozilla DB AND from polling the Yahoo server
- Thunderbird hangs at check password step -
- * both existing account (over a year with few problems)
AND
- * Remove account then add it back

This (your) answer has been cited in this 3 page thread at Yahoo https://forums.yahoo.net/t5/Password-and-sign-in/Login-to-server-imap-mail-yahoo-com-failed-from-Thunderbird/m-p/298597/highlight/false#M52420
Are YOU able to create a throw-away Yahoo identity and add it into Thunderbird - or use an existing one to which you have access?
It is clear that end users are having the problem, a Thunderbird MVP or insider replicating seems the logical next step
I have no interest in creating a Yahoo account.

Thank you for your help
I understand that you are not a Mozilla employee, just a Top 10 contributor to the community.
For a Mozilla coding team member, or a community helper, to troubleshoot this, they would necessarily be required to reproduce the problem by using a Yahoo email account
I will try to figure out how to contact actual Mozilla team members - I think I saw a "Trouble Ticket" link SOMEWHERE in my travels around the site last night
I posted a message in the contributor forum asking a programmer to check into this. I can do nothing more.
From the owner of Yahoo and AOL. Both of which have users complaining about no login. https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/fiosinternet/email/troubleshooting/questionsone/85634.htm

Great. Thank you.
Bugzilla had someone resurrect a 7 year old thread asking where this current issue is being tracked (no other relevant-timely search results) https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=614826

Cute & curt, huh?
Coincidentally, SPECTRUM Cable (formerly TimeWarner - Roadrunner) is experiencing login issue with their WebMail since yesterday TOO!
I am no believer in coincidence, but it appears that there is one in this case.
Thanks again for kicking this upstairs. I am confident that it has been done on behalf of the other folks reporting this as well
Is there any solution to this yet have been using thunderbird for years without an issue until last night works fine in gmail but not yahoo mail accounts seriously fed up with this
It's clear that this is a Thunderbird problem. I hate the Windows 10 mail interface. I hate the Yahoo Mail web interface. That's not a solution. I just need Tbird to work like it used to, with Yahoo IMAP. I greatly appreciate anything anyone can do who has connections with the Tbird support community.

There is a multi-age thread cooking on Yahoo community too https://forums.yahoo.net/t5/Password-and-sign-in/Login-to-server-imap-mail-yahoo-com-failed-from-Thunderbird/td-p/298597
I too have used TBird for many moons - but did have trouble with Yahoo when they added the "Less Secure app" blocker a few months back
Yahoo did something that adversely affects TBird - Mozilla's problem since Yahoo is the Operating System (in essence)
I second that I also just want to use thunderbird like I used to it is driving me crazy having to log in and log out of yahoo for different mail accounts tb was great before this!!

This isn't necessarily a Yahoo issue. Other clients work. IMAP works *fine with Yahoo in Outlook.
- "fine" in this instance refers to the ability to send/receive emails using Outlook with a Yahoo IMAP account. It is not intended to indicate that Outlook handles IMAP well at all in general.

Yahoo works under Outlook with all IMAP settings set the same as Thunderbird. I'm not demanding that this is a Thunderbird issue (for example, perhaps Yahoo is purposely blocking Thunderbird), but other clients DO work. Only Thunderbird isn't.

I agree that it is a thunderbird issue I have tried Opera and that works fine but dont like the interface
