Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• Microsoft Safety Scanner
• MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
• TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
• Hitman Pro
• ESET Online Scanner

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

You were not only unhelpful, you wasted a lot of my time. Your advice had me unknowingly installing nearly a dozen programs I didn't want. including at least two (probably several) programs that first scanned my computer, then told me I was massively infected, then offering to fix a few of the problems for free, but telling me I had to purchase the (free) program to get rid of them all. In other words, a rip-off and a come-on.

Another "fix" you suggested had me going to the place to uninstall programs, but the one I need to get rid of didn't show up there.

I had already tried that, same result.

I just want a simple, step-by step explanation of how to get rid of the damn virus, and you can't give it to me. You are useless.

a suggestion you gave me had me going through a series of installations, the first of which gave me all those unwanted programs I now have to uninstall. What would have happened if I;d followed all of them, which I was told to do? Ended up with dozens more useless programs?

I did two full scans with my Avast program. It detected a lot of problems, and supposedly fixed them all, but not the one I need fixing.

I want to get rid of the "reviewed.com" virus. If you cannot tell me directly and simply how to do that. then you needn't bother replying.

You tell me. I'm told a program will scan for free, then tells me I need to pay them to fix stuff. How do I know it didn't put that junk there?

One of the programs Firefox told me I needed, Optimizer Pro has been assaulting me with viruses, so I uninstalled it, and, in the process, threw nearly a dozen more at me. How do I know the damage has already been done, that something didn't get through Avast?

A widget in the form of a hot-air balloon icon just appeared on my desktop. I only got rid of it by going to my task manager, which told me its program was running.

Any program that tries to extort money from me is a rip-off.

Any program that wastes my time is ripping me off by having to deal with it.

You still haven't answered my question: How do I get rid of reviewed.com ... wait a minute. It isn't there anymore. Now it's aolcareerbuilder.com! Great. Now I have to deal with that.

And, of course, it's just elusive as the reviewed.com virus.

So forget about it. And don't try to sell me anything.

I m sorry that my suggest have wasted your time but we resolve many issues of this kind in this way using the antivirus program that i had recommended to you (as malwarebytes,hitmanpro ecc.). See Reviewed.com. What program you have installed? Try with these:

• ADWCleaner
• Malwarebytes

First off, doing a reset of Firefox in the Troubleshooting panel wouldn't have let a "virus get in".

Second - specifically which of those programs installed more than what you were expecting to install? Or installed those "unwanted" programs?

Also, which of those recommended programs wanted payment for removal of the malware or "virus"? And are you sure that you weren't redirected to something other than the recommended download page? Some Malware will block the downloading of programs to fix issues like that, and I wouldn't be surprised if some Malware can do a redirect to a different "fake" website which might make an issue worse than it started out.

Since you do not recognize which extension is the problem, try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions. If in doubt, disable.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category (in the left column, click Extensions)

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that knock it down?

Sometimes malware hides under a useful-sounding or bland name. One way to spot problem software in the Windows Programs and Features Control Panel is to sort by the install date. This may help track down unwanted software that got installed along with something you remember installing.
