Online banking site javascript functions do not work with Firefox 17.01 (or 17.0) on Mac: why do they work with Safari?

A link button to submit a transaction on the web page of a major Canadian bank's site does not appear in the Firefox rendering, but does in the current version of Safari. The bank's support people claim the problem is with javascript and I "should download the new version." (?) I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Firefox 17.01; I re-installed version 17.0 but this did not correct the problem, and there are no Mac software updates available for my system.

I do not want to stop using Firefox and do not necessarily believe the bank support staff when they imply the problem is with my browser. However, there must be quite a few of their customers running Macs with Firefox, so I can't believe I'm alone in experiencing this problem.

Can someone please offer suggestions?

Eureka! The technical support person at the bank in question suggested I make sure Adblock Plus was not blocking the ads. I love ABP, but rarely have to pay any attention to it. In its enthusiasm for blocking pesky ads, ABP was also blocking some items essential to using the web site.

Madperson,

Thanks for pointing me to the list of things to check. I'd checked most but not all of them. After trying the rest--still no joy.

I've sent screen shots to the bank in question, showing how the pages are rendered in Safari vs Firefox. I have a feeling it may be one of those problems where their web designers rely on browser-dependent features of javascript. I haven't noticed a problem with any other site.

I'll post any useful information I receive about the issue.
