Hello FF, about:config is disabled by my organization. As result simple UI tweaks, such as forcing FF to display the protocol in the URL bar are no longer possible. How can I achieve that, please? Thanks.

Hi alv, it's a little tricky to advise you because we don't want you to get fired for going around IT's back.

Ultimately all customized preference values are stored in the prefs.js file in your profile. At startup, Firefox looks for a user.js file with possible overrides, as well as an Autoconfig file likely controlled by your organization that could lock out changes to a preference. The result of reading those files is what ends up displayed in about:config.

Do you think they would consider making a global change to the browser.urlbar.trimURLs setting and other preferences important to you?

Hello,

You may have seen a post or received a notification regarding support for Firefox or Thunderbird with a link to another site or a phone number being posted. This is a scam and is not a method to receive support from Mozilla. Mozilla does not have telephone or email support. Please do not click on the link and do not interact by calling any phone numbers or email addresses listed. I apologize for any inconvenience caused. You are currently posting on the official Mozilla website and will receive assistance here.

Hi jscher2000, yes, that is interesting. However, my idea was not to overcome the security protections, but rather to search for a legitimate configuration section for only tweaking the UI according to my preferences. I don't know about you, but my understanding is that the UI tweaks should not be united with the security configurations in one and the same configuration area as they are totally different in purpose, and as we see, protecting the security ones totally denies access to the UI ones, which in their turn are harmless, or should be. Anyway, from your reply I imply that there is no such separation and that I will have to live with the UI defaults, albeit I don't like them. Thanks a lot.
