ESR on 32-bit Linux broked DRM - Widevine plugin revoked on Jan , 2019

more options

Amazon prime stopped working for me. I am running the latest version 60.4.0esr on Debian stable (32-bit).

It looks to be something to do with widevinecdm add-on. The current version of Firefox-ESR downloads version 1.4.8.1008, according to the widevine website (https://www.widevine.com/news) the version that is automatically downloaded was revoked as of Jan 8, 2019.

When I checked on my windows machine it appeared to run into the same problem, although after an update to latest non-esr quantum has resolved the issue there. Unfortunately the problem is stubborn on ESR on linux.

I tried to do a manual install of a later plugin, but didn't work. I did manage to get the 1.4.9.1088 plugin working on BitMovin DRM Test, however it still won't play nicely with Amazon Prime Video, I suspect that they are checking for agent headers rather than DRM support versions.

Does anybody else have a similar issue or any advice?

I don't know whether this is a Windows thing, but recently Firefox started installing a later version of Widevine, 4.10.1146. More info and download paths in this thread: Hulu videos will not work.

Having manually installed latest version of Firefox Quantum on Linux this is now pulling in 4.10.1196, the problem I described in the original post is specifically for ESR, I believe that this should be fixed in 60.5.0ESR available in a few weeks but I can't be sure. The danger is content providers not supporting ESR

I see a newer Widevine version (1.4.9.1088) in Firefox 60.4.0 on Linux.

Try to toggle DRM off/on to see if that makes Firefox (re)load DRM components.

@cor-el, thanks but I think this might be different between 32 and 64 bit versions. My post should have indicated 32-bit (I have edited the question to specify this now). Which arch are you seeing this on?

Toggling DRM uninstalls the active version and installs the default version 1..4.8.1008

I did the manual install of 1.4.9.1088, but Amazon is buncing back as obsolete browser needs upgrade.

Surely if this wa included in 63.0 then this should have been available from 60.3.0esr onwards
