How can I export groups of e-mails as files in date order?

I have several folders of e-mail in Thunderbird that I need to keep outside of Thunderbird for long term archive.

I know I can drag e-mails to a folder on my computer to save them, but, when saving this way, the e-mails are not organized in any date order so it's not really useful if I need to refer to them later.

Is there a way to export the e-mails in date order? i.e. either so the date info is attached to the created date or filename of the resulting file or something comparable?

Thanks! Michael

The ImportExportTools add-on has options for naming exported email files according to date.
