Problem copying selected passages
I have a Mac running Yosemite. I administer a Moodle site using Firefox. To copy and paste, I've always used Command + C to copy, Command + X to cut and Command + V to paste. I have used this method for many years because using the right click drop menu doesn't work in Moodle when it runs in Firefox (although it works in other browsers).
However, for the past two weeks, whenever I use Command + C, it won't copy the selected passage to the clipboard but it wants to save the entire web-page. I've attaged a screen shot of the dialogue box that appears ('Cadw Fel' at the top means 'Save as'.)
The Cut and Paste commands (see above) still work fine, but, for some reason, not the Copy command. I've tested this in Safari and Chrome and it works fine. It's only in Firefox that it's suddenly stopped working.
Any ideas what could be causing this - it's very annoying? I like using Firefox but if I can't fix it, I'll have to switch to Safari.
I'd appreciate any suggestions,
Many thanks

HI Mal, Are you copying the webpage or the title of the download? Do you have an example moodle website?
Thank you!
Hi and many thanks for the reply. No, I don't need to copy from a webpage although the same thing happens if I try to do that. But I would typically be copying from a text-editing box. However, something interesting has just happened! I'm replying to your messsage in Firefox and, as an experiment, I just tried copying a sentence from this message and it worked fine. I then tried copying a passage from the BBC website and the problem returned. On my Moodle site if I'm using a text-editing box the problem occurs, so perhaps it's a problem with the Moodle - it's as if the text-editing box is perceived as a live web page because instead of just copying the text, it wants to save the whole page as an .html file. I'll try contacting our Moodle hosting company to see if they can get to the bottom of it.
Many thanks,
Regards,
Mal
Does this still work in Firefox on other pages?
Hi Cor-el,
I have some more information that may help shed some light on the matter.
I tried doing this (copying with Command + C) using Firefox on my MacBook and it worked fine. As I was doing this, a pop-up appeared saying that I could update to Firefox 35.0.1. I decided not to update for the time being and checked and found that on my MacBook I'm running Firefox 25.0. This reminded me that, a few weeks ago, I received a similar pop-up on my iMac and I proceeded with the update. I now recollect that this problem began just after I updated to 35.0.1
When I'm in Firefox 35.0.1 (on my iMac) this problem occurs whenever I try to copy a passage from any web page or in a text-editing box on the Moodle, but when I'm on my MacBook on Firefox 25.0, the problem doesn't occur at all. Nor does it occur in Safari nor chrome on either iMac or MacBook.
This leads me to believe that this may be a bug in Firefox 35.0.1
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Mal
