I have three computers and Firefox is slow on all of them AND it's getting slower, The issue is definitely Firefox and not the machines or operating systems. Here's why. I'm in the process of ditching Microsoft although one of my machines still runs Windows 8.1 I'm not really surprised that Firefox (or anything else) is slow or flakey even though it's completely up to date in every way, has the max amount of RAm that can be installed on this i7 machine. However, another machine is running xUbuntu and Firefox is flakey and pathetically slow to start. It is a fresh install of both the operating system and Firefox, has all updates installed, no anti virus or firewall installed and there are only two add-ons (Ubunto Rirefox package and FlashPlayer). Occasionally, on this machine I also get the "Firefox is already running" message just after cold booting the machine and starting Firefox for the first time. The third machine is a brand new Mac Mini i7 with maximum RAM, no anti virus or firewall, no other software installed on the machine except what comes already installed, all updates installed, zero add-onns for Firefox and all settings still set to default. On the Mac, Firefox takes almost a minute to start at times, but sometimes it's down to 30 seconds or so - it's not consistent. I'm unistalling it in the next five minutes. I hate Chrome because... I'm already married and have no desire to marry Google... Could tou please now fix Firefox and return it to what it was say a year ago? Thanks td

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

There might be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
