In infinite loop of crash closing - after sorting emails by stars - (Urgent to me)
I was using thunderbird. I accidentally hit the sort by star right above the email list. The application crashed closed. When I reopen it, it immediately crash closes. I can't even get an pointer arrow for long enough to exit myself.
On window 10. Thunderbird was up to date.
Tried - restarting computer. Signing out of TB in the crash report box. Can't get into safe mode.

re :but then opens into a crash report. Please post crash report.
Assuming TB is closed Try using the Thunderbird 'Profile Manager' to create a new Profile. How to access profile manager http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager#Accessing_the_Profile_Manager
then Scroll down webpage to section 'Creating a new profile'.
After creating new Profile name, select new profile name and click on 'Start Thunderbird' button.
Create mail accounts. Imap accounts will access server folders and emails.
If you have pop mail accounts, create the mail accounts then install addon extension 'ImportExportTools'. https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ Right click on mail account name in folder pane and use 'ImportExportTools' > 'Import mbox file' See image below Select mbox file from old profile pop mail account Second image below shows what mbox files look like.

So picking a solution doesn't close the problem - and you can still fine tune some more...

Correct. I really don't take much notice of the solution thing, I personally think it is a misnomer, I can answer 90 questions, but only 1 might actually solve the issue. The other 89 might be "that is how it is"
I am wondering if your are mistaking the quick filter bar for sorting. If your "big icons" have a text box after them with filter these messages, the buttons you are referring to are filters and the list is filtered to only show messages that meet the criteria selected. Not sorted at all.
Do you still have a profile which reproduce the crash?
Yes, I still have the broken profile stored as a backup.

I wasn't being exactly. By filtering, it sorts them into top half those with star, then followed by those without. That's what I meant. I hit this button by accident. I've had trouble with the star filter button before though never until stuck in an infinite loop like this. But because of the trouble, I don't intentionally hit the star filter button.
Thanks for clarification: You are talking about the 'Sort by Star' column header; not the 'Show only starred messages' filter in 'Quick Filter Bar'.
I don't know which each of those are. But I suspect I mean the opposite of that. I mean the smaller icons below and to the left of a slightly bigger set. The smaller set that I mean, are removable from the screen by right clicking the sort columns and picking what columns you want to see. You can click the star in that column that's next to an email in order to add a star to it.
While these little ones filter for only stars, or only attachments... if you use them (when they are working,) they put the attachment emails on the top of the email list... but the rest of the emails are still in the list but at the bottom. The bigger icons above that, filter and only show the starred or tagged emails or one's with attachments.

yep that's the 'Sort by Star' column header.
You did not manage to tell us anything about a crash report.
Maybe the crash report is still mentioned. In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information Scroll down to 'Crash reports' If it does not show anything, click on 'All Crash Reports' Locate crash around the date in question click on 'View' a window opens in your browser. Please copy the webpage it opened on and paste info into this question.
If it only says crash is unsubmitted then click on the 'Submit' button. Then you should get the submitted crash report to View.

Fantastic. Hopefully someone will contact you soon to arrange for testing.

Hi there, Is there any chance I could get a copy of that so I can try and replicate the issue while running under a debugger? You can contact me at: benc@thunderbird.net

I'll be back in the next few days or within the week to get the crash report and figure out which profile it is.
I have a medical procedure tomorrow, so my apologies, for not being able to be quicker. I really appreciate you're following through on the problem.
If you don't hear from me in about 5 days - post again to get my attention!

If your problem returned and you are running version 115, please create a new topic with the details. Thanks.
