Periodically can't send messages
My computer, and my colleagues, every so often will stop sending any emails, just time out and saying "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.zoho.com timed out. Try again."
I have tried resetting the security on the account, and also following all of the instructions on the mozilla help including stopping firewalls, security etc.
My troubleshooting info is:

Although the McAfee TB extension is disabled, the best way to check if other McAfee components are the source of the timeouts is to run Windows in safe mode, then run TB and see if the problem remains.
For W10, Shift+Restart, Troubleshooting, Advanced options, Startup Settings, Restart, 5.

Thanks for this, I tried what you said, including starting in safe mode, but no luck, my emails still won't send!
When you mention "resetting the security on the account", what exactly does that imply? Your server settings look correct, according to their instructions for personal accounts, so it's not obvious what's causing sending to fail, since Windows safe mode suggests McAfee isn't interfering.
Does each zoho account send on its own smtp server with the same user name and password as the associated incoming account?
Do you have Two-Factor Authentication enabled on any of the accounts?
Do you use a VPN? That's a common source of such problems.
Gewysig op
I tried changing the authentication method to OAuth2, as it mentioned trying this in one of the groups I read, however it made no difference, so I changed it back to normal password.
They also use the same smtp server (smtp.zoho.com) but then have their own log on details associated with the incoming account.
I have two factor authentication on one of the accounts (account 1), however this has never been a problem previously, plus, as mentioned, my colleagues are having the same problem and they do not have it.
No, I don't use a VPN
I don't have a solution yet to your problem, but will mention a few things.
Even if zoho supports OAuth2, TB currently supports OAuth2 only for Gmail accounts.
If all zoho accounts send through the same smtp server, say, the one with account1 credentials, recipients may see messages as coming from account1, even if you specified account3, 4 or 5 on the From: line. This happens with Gmail accounts (maybe zoho too?), and so it's recommended to have separate smtp servers for accounts 1,3,4,5 and have each account point to the corresponding Outgoing Server (SMTP) in Account Settings.
If you have 2FA on an account, you must generate an app password and use that in TB, with 'normal password' authentication.
So I have been playing with it again, as I really need these to work now, and I started it again in safe mode and now for some reason they send, so I went back in to normal mode, completely removed McAfee and then tried, still not sending! I have even checked there are no files left, the only thing left is the mcafee on thunderbird add on, which i can't find a way to remove, but it is disabled.
As for the smtp the email addresses do go to seperate smtp, just all with the same address (smtp.zoho.com) but then separate usernames and passwords, and they do all go to their own smtp.
The account with 2FA has an app password it is using, and has worked before, which makes me think it isn't a problem with this?
If you can send in Windows safe mode, there is probably some other program blocking TB in normal mode. Right-click the Start button, select Task Manager, and look at the Startup tab.
To completely remove McAfee, there is a removal tool.
