I've been a firefox user for over 10 years. With this Genieo crap that's showing up in my firefox search results, I'm now at the point where I need Firefox to fix this or I'm dumping this browser altogether. I'm using a Mac.

Genieo is not related or a part of Firefox in anyway, so this is something we can help you remove.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
  2. Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page

I hope these steps help you, if you still need more help please feel free to let us know.

Don't trust the genieo adware uninstaller, since it leaves active software behind. The company have known this for many months, but seem unable or unwilling to do anything about it, just as they won't reset search choices.

Use the steps at http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/

or

You installed the "Genieo" search-hijacking rootkit.

Enter about:config Search for Genieo and reset all values (most are search or new tab related) There might be some extension as well. It is a search hijacker for mac. Don't know if any mac AV removes these.
