i use multiple tabs all the time, about 30% of the time, when i do have multiple tabs up, the "x" to close an individual tab isn't there. and its a pain to "right-click" and close tab on each one, all the time. does anyone have any ideas why this is? or can someone look into this? to fix it?? :)

If you have a lot of tabs opened then you only get a close X on the tab that has focus.
You can middle click the tab with the mouse scroll wheel to close the tab.

In my case even the current tab does not the [x] to close it. However, since I have learned to close the active tab with ctrl+w I am no longer as desperate for it to come back.

Set the pref browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing the browser and make a close button appear if only one tab is open.

Also look at the pref browser.tabs.closeButtons

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.
