Anyone know why, firefox does not remember password for a site when you remove password from the view password site? I removed a password for a site that was not remembering the correct password for the "view password" window and now it does not guess the password and does not remember the password for that site. All other sites are being remembered.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

== After I deleted the password from the view password window.

Hi.

Please go into Tools > Options > Security, and, under "Passwords", click "Exceptions". Make sure the site you're trying to save a password for is not there.

Hopefully it will be and you'll be able to delete it, so Firefox saves passwords for it once again.

The saved password feature worked well, but the site I had saved the password for required that I change the password. I have found no way to update the password in Firefox. After I deleted the saved password, Firefox did not ask if I wanted the new password saved. When this happened before, I removed and re-installed Firefox, and then it worked. I hope there is another way to update a password.

If the name stays the same and you only need to change (update) the stored password then fill the name in the login form and let Firefox fill the wrong password. You may have to press the Tab key to fill the password field. If you replace the wrong password with the new password then Firefox should offer to store the new password. Use the Remember Password bookmarklet on websites that use "autocomplete=off" to prevent Firefox from saving passwords. You can verify that Firefox has stored the new password: Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords" If that didn't work then remove that name and password and Firefox should offer to save the new password on the next visit or if you refresh the login page.

Thanks, cor-el, that would prevent it from happening in the first place. However, I've already removed it, and the main problem persists, although the site isn't included among the Exceptions for passwords.

Are there any entries left from that website or other suspect (empty) names and passwords visible in the password manager?

I've removed any URL related to the page, and checked what every unknown URL referred to, both in Saved passwords and Exceptions. I then restarted Firefox and double-checked that they were removed, but the problem still persists - it still doesn't ask me if it should be remembered, although that box is filled.

For information, it's about login to my University's page at https://cas.user.uu.se/cas/login and my Firefox version is 3.6.9.
