If your current account settings use secure connections and authentication, you should be able to access your ISP account no matter which network you use. But if your ISP account has, e.g., a POP or IMAP server with Connection security = none or sends over port 25 with no authentication, it probably won't work on Spectrum or any other network. In that case, you could probably still use the account by connecting through webmail.

If you state your ISP and current settings, we may be able to suggest alternative settings.

POP server Connection security is STARTTLS, port 110.

Outgoing server uses port 25, Authentication method is Normal password.

I think I now remember one of the Outlook Express settings issues that I had a few years ago. In order for me to connect with Spectrum, I have to provide my friend's username and password. At the same time, there needs to be a way to provide my own username and password to 012. How is that done?

As far as I can tell, not being able to read Hebrew, your ISP doesn't support a secure smtp server. The best solution may be to add an account from a provider such as gmail, outlook.com, gmx.com etc., and add your 012 account as an authenticated sending address (e.g. in gmail, Settings/Accounts & Import). That way, you could send mail from your 012 address, but through the secure (gmail, outlook, etc.) smtp server. If receiving mail from the 012 POP server had issues on a non-012 network, you could also set the secure provider to collect mail from the 012 server.

Or, access the account through the webmail portal; that should work on the Spectrum or any other network.

There's really no need these days to suffer the limitations and inconvenience of providers who don't offer secure email.

I've added my Yahoo mail account to Thunderbird, but I'm at an impasse. If I select IMAP, will my 012 messages go into my Yahoo folder or will they get downloaded to Thunderbird?

To have your 012 mail collected by the Yahoo account, use these directions or these. If you want to send from your 012 address through the Yahoo server, see this page.

If you connect your 012 account to Yahoo, it shoudn't be necessary (or desirable) to use your friend's Spectrum credentials.

Make sure when you select the 012 account in the left pane of Tools/Account Settings, and then Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the lower right pane, the Yahoo smtp server is selected.

I unexpectedly had a chance to check out the links you provided earlier than I anticipated. They are not what I want. If I go through Yahoo, which is a Webmail portal, then I can just as well go directly to 012's Webmail portal. What I want is the convenience of Thunderbird. I know that there should be a way to make it work, since I was able to use Outlook Express to access my 012 mail a few years ago.

The suggestion is that you set up the Yahoo account in TB and set your 012 account in TB send over the Yahoo smtp server that would be defined in TB. You only have to use the Yahoo website to change a few settings so that when you send from 012 in TB, the recipient sees it as coming from the 012 address, not the Yahoo address.

My initial reaction was that I'd have to wait until I reach NY (on Dec. 24th) to fiddle around with all this. Then it occurred to me that if the setup you're suggesting doesn't cause a significant delay in sending and receiving mail, I could try setting it all up right now.

So . . . will there be a noticeable delay?

I don't think there will be a delay, as long as your internet connection is reliable and you don't have security programs scanning email.

Step 1 was to set up my Yahoo account in TB. At th end of setup, it tries to verify the password, and can't. It displays a message questioning if the username or password is wrong.

Did you log into the Yahoo account and 'allow less-secure apps' as mentioned in the Yahoo kb article cited above?

All email programs are labelled 'less secure' to discourage users from not using the Yahoo webmail site. You can read about it in the case of Gmail in the section 'Less Secure Apps' here.

I set up 012 as an account at Yahoo. I then changed 012's configuration in TB to go through Yahoo's imap server. I received the following message:

Edit: I just realized that my setup of 012 at Yahoo was incomplete. That's because I'm not seeing what I'm supposed to be seeing. One example: When I move my mouse onto the Settings icon, I don't see Settings. All I see is:

That suggests you set up a POP account but entered IMAP settings. If you open Tools/Account Settings and look in Server Settings for the Yahoo account, what is the Server Type? You want to set up the Yahoo account in TB as IMAP, and then set the 012 account to send through the Yahoo outgoing SMTP server.

No, I set it up correctly in TB. TB is collecting mail from Yahoo. My problem is that I can't get my 012 mail in TB through Yahoo, and that's undoubtedly because I wasn't given the opportunity to input all the information at Yahoo.

At this point, it's best to wait for a reply from Yahoo.

A Yahoo tech explained that the problem was happening because I was using Basic Mail. The solution was to switch to New Mail and I'd be able to create a new mail account. Note what it says about it no longer being possible to create new extra e-mail addresses.

I think 'extra email addresses' are additional Yahoo addresses. The link I gave before is the one to follow to add your 012 address as a send-only address.
