Bing has 'invaded' my computer and substituted itself as the search engine with Firefox - I do not want Bing!

I have for many years used Firefox with Google as the search engine.

Today out of the blue Bing appeared as the search engine - without me manually changing anything.

I want to use Google as my preferred search engine

It seems that Bing has invaded as a malware would perhaps on the back of some other invasive add on or similar.

I have gone to options and settings and after removing Bing (supposedly) it reappears when I do a search.

Very frustrating for an occasional user.

You can look for a file named dsengine.js in these locations. There should only be channel-prefs.js in this location, any other file present is suspicious and you can check its content in a plain text editor to see what file it points to.

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\

You can look for a file named dsengine.cfg in the main Firefox program folder.

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\

Delete the dsengine.js and dsengine.cfg files when present.
