When I check on my PC using help, the Firefox Version is 56.0. When I check whatismybrowser.com, the FF version is 48.0. My bank also picked up on this and it is a security problem with version 48. What do I do to fix this?

I am using Win 10 which is up to date on a Lenovo Ideacenter PC.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem. Thank you!

The browser that you used to post here reports itself to websites that you go to as this:

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0 WOW64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 TfMF5tnz-3 Firefox/48.0

Likely an extension that you have installed changed that part of the UA string.

I am not a techie and do not understand this minimal reply. For example, I have no idea about "the UA string." And I barely understand "extensions."

I need guidance and instruction of how to fix the problem. Do I uninstall and reinstall the program?

Your system details show an extension, called : TrackOFF 1.3.0 .......

Would you disable it please, and see if that will make a difference  ?

Click on the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner (right under the closing 'X'), which is Firefox menu, called the 3-bar menu. Then click on Add-ons => Extensions - you should see it there.
