I can not change text colors in Thunderbird do you have any idea why?
When composing e-mail I can not change text colors by using the toolbar. They seem to work when I select a color but the text does not change. I have tried typing and then selecting the text and then trying to change the font color with no luck. I have also tried selecting the new text color and then typing the text again with no luck.
I do not recall if this is a new problem with a recent upgrade or If I have never tried before now to change the text color. All I know for sure is it doesn't work now and I usually send Christmas mail in color.

I believe I may have found the problem. Tools - Options - Display - Formatting - Default Font - Colors - Override the colors specified by content was "always" and I changed it to "never" That seems to have fixed it.

It does not seem to make a difference. When I change color and type the selected color box goes back to black. If I select the text and try to change color the window shows the last selected color as correct but current color is black again. I click OK on the bottom of the window to set the color with no change in the color.

"Tools" etc does NOT work for me. How does one access "always" and or "never" as you state? rema. zillawork said

From the menu bar click [Tools] then click [Options] at the bottom of the window. In the options window click the [Display] tab. In the new window click the [Formatting] tab. You will see Three tabs there click [Fonts & Colors] then look to the right of the default font for the [colors] decision box. In the lower left corner of the colors window you will see a decision box under "Override colors specified by the content... In the box below that are three choices [Always], [Only with high contrast themes] and [Never]. Click [Never] then click [OK] to save the change. That fixed mine.
From the Thunderbird 'menu' bar [Tools], I have NO 'options', NO 'display' nor any 'tabs' shown as you refer to. I have an APPLE OS X 10.9.5 computer. I use the APPLE Mac platform only.
Options is the last item on the tools menu drop down window. It is below Account Settings and may look like account options. Otherwise I do not have Apple anything so I can't help further and I don't know if there is a different version of Thunderbird for the Apple system

To Zillawork; " 'Options' is the last item ... it is below Account Settings"... 'Otherwise I do not have Apple anything so I can't help further ...' Obviously there is NOT a 'different version of Thunderbird for the Apple system'. Conclusion: adding 'color' text to email messages is NOT possible for Apple OS X users. PERIOD! No reply necessary. rema
