Problem started when I updated the Adobe Flash Player. First, the Flash Player kept crashing, so I deleted it from the computer. Things worked okay until I reinstalled the Flash Player, and now Firefox has crashed multiple times the past two days - always when trying to play a game, or view multiple photos or a video. Also, things are extremely slow. Should I just delete the Flash Player permanently? If so, what is an alternative?

Thanks to you both! So far it seems that disabling the protected mode is working... I was able to get into the crossword without a crash of either the Flash Player or Firefox. If I have the problem again, I'll try try the additional suggestions from FredMcD.
