I wanted to start using Firefox Sync but when I click the button it tells me cookies are disabled. Actually they are not, but I have the option set to "ask me every time". Why does Firefox not first let me decide before concluding that cookies have been disabled. This question should come AFTER it attempts to set a cookie, not before because now I do not get anywhere. Related issue, why is it impossible to search (in a simple fashion and inside Options > Privacy > Exceptions) to look for specific cookies? I was given a way to look for specific cookies once but already forgot because looking for them was so convoluted.

Hi, The answer to your second question is that they are in the same place. Options > Privacy > Show Cookies... is the button you want. The answer to your first question I think it is before so that the cookie does not save without your permission. If you have any other questions, please post back.

Hi guigs2,

Thanks for the response and sorry, the second question was my mistake. The question was actually related to searching the Exceptions list for sites I blocked or allowed cookies for, rather than the actual cookies. Should have been more clear on that. The first question is still unanswered. How can I indicate that I will accept the cookie if Firefox has already concluded that I do not allow a cookie to be set before asking me?

Try to allow cookies for the accounts.firefox.com domain.

Updated. In fact, I just found out that the "navigator.cookieEnabled" returns yes. So what's up with this?

There is a setting for accepting cookies and lifetime of cookies in sync if you look in the about:config page. Does this still happen?

more options

I solved this by navigating to about:config in the URL bar and searching for "cookie". There is a result named "services.sync.prefs.sync.privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies"…double-click this so that the value is false and hopefully the cookie issues for FxSync go away.

The services.sync.prefs.sync.privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies pref is about syncing the value of the privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies pref to other devices. This pref is about using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies and would only effect cookies on other devices and if "Clear history when Firefox closes".

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
