Firefox will not launch npr media player
Firefox 27 on Win 7. I have found that the only way to solve this issue of not being able to launch npr media player is to reinstall Firefox. I should not have to do this. What are the possible solutions? When I click to listen to a program nothing happens. Then it periodically stops working again???
被選擇的解決方法
I believe I have the solution to two of my issues: 1. Not loading the npr media player 2. When closing Firefox, not terminating the .exe file that I have had to manually unload in order to be able to re start Firefox.
The solution seems to be removing the add-on XMARKS 4.2.1.
This seemed like a great add-on but not at this expense. I there another that works properly perhaps?
Many thanks for your help,

Is the problem that the pop-up window does not open, or that the Flash application used for the media player doesn't load, or... it would be great to have more details about how far you get and where it breaks down.
Note that all the content in the pop-up is part of the Adobe Flash Player object.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
- disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Thank you for your response. Nothing happens when it should open. How do I tell if Flash is loading? Many thanks,
Dave
If you right-click in the pop-up window then you should see the Adobe Flash Player context menu and not the normal context menu that you get on a web page.
Cor-el, Thanks for your response but there is no pop-up window????
On the NPR web page, I click to listen to a program and nothing happens, no pop up.
How do I get the player to launch in Firefox without having to re install each time this happens?
Forcing a screen refresh does not do it.
Many thanks, Dave
The page is designed to attach a script function to each player link in the page after the page loads. The function (NPR.Player.openDesktopPlayer) then opens the pop-up window.
In order for this to work, several things need to happen:
(1) Firefox needs to load the script file http://s.npr.org/templates/javascript/generated/fingerprint/headerAllPages-b3dc9a8248aa9896985ef3d16cac4c7925c7bcbf.js
(Note that the long number/letter part might change.)
You can watch the Web Console to see whether expected files are loading. Press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the Web Console, then reload the page bypassing the cache using Ctrl+Shift+r. Each file should show "200 OK" on the right side.
(2) You can check for errors when you click the link. First open the Browser Console (Ctrl+Shift+j) and click its Clear button to reduce clutter. Then in your main window click the link, and check the Browser Console for any error message(s).
Do those check out okay?
Although Firefox's built-in popup blocker doesn't block scripts that run when you click, some add-on popup blockers could be more aggressive. Did you test in Firefox's Safe Mode to see whether extensions could be a factor?

Something is going on with the Xmarks Sync extension... The author has submitted several newer versions for review, but there seems to be a holdup in getting them approved. Not fully baked? Some other problem??
Not sure any of the newer versions would work for you, but if you want to try them, they can be found on this page:
