I have connected to work with shrew soft vpn. When I try to connect to my ipcop firewall at work, firefox 9 states the url is not valid and cannot be loaded. If I use ie, it works fine. It probably has to do with some sort of security checking the ip address since i am browsing the internet to a local domain. The address of the ipcop box is https://192.168.1.1:445

Again, this works fine in ie.

I just downloaded and installed google chrome and it also works. I get a security warning before I can proceed. The google chrome warning is as follows The site's security certificate is not trusted! You attempted to reach 192.168.1.1, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site.

I am guessing that I have to tell firefox it is a safe address.

Hi,

You may have to install Visual C++ 2005 SP1 or the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1, if neither is installed. Please also see this.

I installed .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and it works. The only problem i have now is that firefox won't give me the option to permanently store the certificate

You can try to manually add it via Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Advanced > Encryption > View Certificates > Servers > Add Exception, enter the address, click Get Certificate, enable (tick) Permanently store this exception and Confirm Security Exception. The process is almost the same if you enter the address directly in the Location bar, browse to the site and Add Exception (see this).
