Opening in the side bar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the side bar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the side bar" is not selected.

this has nothing to do with the quetion I asked. When I start typing for example, in the google search in middle of the page, a different window comes up and on the left it has everything images video news and more etc. these are not bookmarks.

It sounds that somehow pages do get opened in the sidebar.

Can you confirm that by opening the bookmarks in the sidebar via Ctrl+B ?

Once again this problem has nothing to do with bookmarks. I have added two pictures to try to explain better. In picture 1 under the word google when you type something to search for it made suggestions right under the word google. Now when you start typing a word for something to search for IE: firefox the screen changes to what you see in picture 2. any ideas why and can this be corrected.

You are right. I have same issue and no help from Firefox Support. There is a bug that is taking control and redirecting your search to other websites. You will find it is rampant among Firefox users. Check the forum. Could not find a consistent fix process. I am ready to just dump Firefox 6. I never had this problem until a few days ago. My virus protection service eAccerleration usually can fix virus problems but this one has them stumped.

the interesting thing is that I just found out that this is happening in INternet Explorer so looks like it is not just a Firefox problem. I am beginng to believe that this is something that google is doing as I just tried bing and it does not happen there.
