How can I control username and password for individual websites: 1. I want Firefox to remember username and passwords for some websites, but not for other websites. I know how to do that. 2. I also want to change my mind; to alter a setting from "remember username, password" into "not remember" for individual websites, not general. How do I update a setting which has already been done, the menu then seems to dissapear? Why am I stuck with the original choice of setting for an individual website? When firefox remembers a passwords, I sometimes want it undone, but not for all websites where it remembers the password.

First, you can delete the saved login. Second, you can check the Exceptions list to see whether you need to remove the site there. (I don't think so, I think Firefox will ask you again the next time you get to that login form and then you can tell it Never.)

To the Options/Preferences page!

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Security. Then on the right side, click Saved Logins and clear the one you no longer want remembered.

Success?

I get into the Saved Logins page, but there are no entries, the list of Saved Logins is blank. It doesn't show the page where Firefox remebers the username ad password. The list dosn't show anything. Problem not solved. How can I clear the FireFox saved username and password to a sensitive site?

A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:

  • You can create a cookie "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: Exceptions

Remove the cookies from a website to make the website forget about you.

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:

  1. click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
  2. highlight an entry in the drop-down list with the mouse or cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
  3. press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
