When replying to an HTML email, Thunderbird utterly mangles the text _like*THIS*_ _which_ *means* <http://means> that *you* have _to spend time_ on *EVERY* reply _undoing_ *THE MANGLING* by _hand_ before /YOU can/ *start writing* your _EMail_.

Is there an option to turn this off (if so, it's very well hidden), and if not, can someone please add one?

are you talking about the mangling that occurs when a message is forwarded like a zillion times and the text is largely replaced by >>>>

Try the rewrap command on the edit menu (ctrl+R)

No I mean when the message you're replying to contains bold or underline or italic or links or email addresses, and Thunderbird takes it upon itself to _mangle the_ *reply* to the <mailto:email>.
