Firefox won't open any web pages but gives no error message. It just flashes and then stays on the home tab.

more options

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on the same machine. Right at first Firefox worked ok but then it wouldn't load a web page anymore. I've uninstalled it several times, including the profile folder, but that had made no difference. Doesn't matter if you type in an address in the URL bar at the top or the search box on the home page, the screen just flashed really quickly and then is still on the default home page. Any help? Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

I have tried both of these ideas but neither worked. Anything else? And thanks for the replies!

I have Norton installed already. Would those programs you mentioned do a better job than what I already have?

Thanks for suggesting that I run one of these programs, Phillipp! I used adwcleaner and it found one thing which when it was cleaned up allowed Firefox to run normally! Thanks again! I was not enjoying using Edge!
