i have been using thunderbird for many years no problems but lately when i minimise all programs including thunderbird before closing the lid, when i open it again and maximise thunderbird nothing works completely locked, if a new email comes in the panel at bottom of screen that normally shows these it is just a blank panel, i have to close and reopen thunderbird to make it work, i have windows 7 home premium, no other program does this including firefox, thanks David

Not sure why you minimizing it. What happens if you don't. If you have any new changes to the computer they may be the cause. Do you do automatic updates for windows and TB. If yes post more details back here and the same question to www.sevenforums.com/ as well. The problem may be with an update, but sometimes you just have to reinstall. I seldom find out but always want to know what went wrong.

Hello David, i tried closing without minimising seems ok at the moment, its something i normally do, i have auto updates for Mozilla but as much as i switch off the auto updates for windows it keeps overriding my setting another reason i hate windows, use linux on my PC never had a problem, thanks for your suggestion, i did think of reinstalling thunderbird will try that if all else fails, Davis

Ask how to stop auto updates on "www.sevenforums.com/". If anyone knows, they will. You may be able to set it to ask every time. i wasn't using my win 7 computer. It was on running with the screen saver when I got the "Blue Screen Of death". Maybe that's what happened to me, an auto update. I crave Win 98, the last good interface. I'm on an XP now and my win 7 is still down. I'm keeping XP as long as I can. How did you like Linux?

Hi Again

I use XP on the home PC with no problems even since microsoft stopped updates, i have tried all the settings on 7 updates, like asking me if i want to update etc, but no matter what i select windows still over rides it, i have to change it every few days, i love linux never had a problem with it never crashed must see if i can get it on my laptop, i have noticed every time it updates is slowes the computer down, its a garbage program

Thanks again David

Not sure what you meant "its a garbage program". The reason I'm curious is that I may not be able to get XP on my Win7 machine and that's why I was asking about Linux. Hope you don't mind my asking.

What i mean by garbage for a program to need so many constant updates means its full of holes that too many people can attack, i don't even have an antivirus on linux never had a problem, my anti virus on windows constantly finds problems and stops them Not minimising my Thunderbird appears to help, i also use Gmail that doesn't do it Thanks David
