When I upgraded to Yosemite on my Mac, I lost all my previous Firefox bookmarks. I have tried to look through the help sections and can't fix this problem. All my bookmark toolbar tabs were incorrect as well, but I was able to replace them. I may have accidentally hit the wrong button in a window that asked about importing things from a brower, and I may have selcecd Safari, but there was no option for Firefox and I wasn't sure what to do. The bookmarks that I have now, are very old from long ago and I lost all the ones I've saved over the years. Can I get them back and how do I do that? Please help...many important sites are lost.

Hi LoisN, It is possible to look in the profile folder on the Mac, however I cannot guarantee. Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

Also follow these troubleshooting instructions for recovering lost bookmarks:

I checked the profile folder on the Mac HD, but no luck there. I also did the "Recover lost or missing Bookmarks" in the firefox help section and that did not work either. I think I just have to try to visit all my previous bookmarked pages and bookmark them again. Thanks for the reply and suggestions.

Did you notice an "Old Firefox Data" folder on your desktop after the upgrade, or if you clicked a button to speed up Firefox because it was starting slowly? If so, you might find a backup of your bookmarks in that folder. More details to follow if you find the folder.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post and thought you had updated Firefox. Instead this was a new installation of Firefox after the operating system update?

Do you have any backups of your computer from before?

Yes it was a computer system upgrade, not Firefox. I have a backup thing attached to my computer and I did try to access that, but had no luck. When I went back to open a folder from before the upgrade, it opened to the same Firefox I now have...bummer.

Could you try a Spotlight search (or whatever it's called now), including system files, for a folder named bookmarkbackups or a file named places.sqlite? Maybe you can find your old bookmark backup files in a folder that Firefox is not checking.

Wow...thanks for all the suggestions, but they still don't help...found the bookmark backup folder on the Mac, but since I downloaded a new operating system (and that's when I lost all the data) the backup folder just shows backups of the date I did the download... I appreciate your trying to help, but I think I'm resigned to just trying to re-bookmark stuff as I visit.
