Unable to download or stream any video or download any data including Firefox upgrades since 11-8-2011. Please help.
I am not able to download or upgrade any thing since 11-8-11. I get a (Web Acceleration Client Error (508.2) - DNS Response Error The web page request could not be satisfied because the Web Acceleration Client could not resolve the domain name of the web server either because the DNS request timed out or a DNS error response was received from the DNS server.) Internet Explorer does work and updated Firefox and Flash player by this means. I am running a Hughes satellite system and have never had this problem before last night. Hughes says the problem is with Firefox since IE runs fine. Please don't make me have to go back to IE.

why don't you give an uninstall and reinstall a try?
I've tried it. I think it is a problem with Hughes Sat. Web Accelerator but they claim it's not their problem. I was told they don't claim to support Firefox. Told me to run on IE or Chrome instead. I have been a Firefox user for years and I love it. On the Hughes blogs I saw quit a few people with the same problem but no solutions. Hoping Firefox will address the problem and find a solution on their end.
I have the same problem. I am able to surf the internet fine. Just when I attempt to download from any web site do I get error. It seems to be computer related, not Hughesnet related because I don't get the error when I plug Hughesnet into my laptop.
Does it work if you disable that web accelerator and use a normal connection?
See "Firefox connection settings":
I started seeing this error 2 weeks ago on my desktop connected to Hughesnet at my farm, which formerly worked just fine. I only saw the error when downloading. I was able to surf the web. Although Hughesnet is sending me a new modem after spending too much time talking to India... I found that I did not have the same problem using my laptop at the same site. On comparing network setting, the only thing I found different between Laptop and desktop is that on my desktop, the LAN setting in my network setup had a check next to "use a proxy server..." I unchecked it and am now fully operational! Phew! Hope it works for others.
Thank you snakeknuckles !!!!! It worked. I called Hughesnet today and got less than no help and then was transferred to a tech support group "partnering" with Hughesnet called ITOK. The ITOK technical support guy said he could help me but first I needed to pay the $100.00 fee for their service and I believe an additional $10.00 / month. Thankfully I declined and decided to dig deeper for a solution myself. Bravo - snakeknuckles !!!!!
Snakeknuckles, well done! I have been having this problem for months and add to my frustration having to deal with HughesNet. When I first unchecked the box, I tried watching a video and it didn't work. It only worked after I restarted my computer. Adding this step might save just a little bit of frustration. The only thing I can't understand is that I did not change any of my LAN settings prior to the problem starting. Oh well. Thanks again.
It works!!! Thank you for this advice . I no longer get the 508.2 dns error after removing the check in the (allow proxy server box) in the LAN properties screen.
