详细了解

Certain websites like Craigslist show a scrambled, blurry security word image that the user has to type into a field in order to submit an ad. With Firefox, the word doesn't show up in the field. I have to open Explorer to accomplish this task.

When a user posts an ad on Craigslist, they are sent an e-mail with a link. Clicking on this link brings the user to a page where the ad content can be checked, and the last step is to retype the scrambled security word into a field. When I'm on Firefox, this word (which I'm assuming is an image file like a .jpg or a .bmp) does not appear. I just had this same problem on a website called Sailing Anarchy when trying to register a new account.

Try updating from that 2+ year old version of Firefox.

I just upgraded to Firefox 5.0 and then tried posting an ad to Craigslist and still have the same problem. In order to submit the ad, it shows me a box that should contain a security word image which it asks me to retype, but that security word does not show up. There's just an empty box where the word image should be. Other ideas?

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

See:

  • Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
  • Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
  • Check the exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
  • Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).

If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "Block Images from..." then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.
