Hi,

 So Firefox automatically downloaded an update a few days ago and it did not warn me it would do this. It didn't say anything about fixing anything. Suddenly all my data is gone; all bookmarks, history, accounts, ect.

I restarted my pc ,and everything came back that day (2 dys ago) However, I JUST closed the browser and reopened it, and everything is gone again! I don't know what is going on, but it's been very frustrating.

Steps I have already tried per this forum-

I have restarted my PC, I have shut down and started up my PC.

I have checked for multiple accounts and profiles (looks like there's now 3 brand new ones all created today with no history) I tried to log into a firefox account in case I had one, I didn't, so now I have a new account. I have checked my desktop and searched every file for anything remotely related to a file called "old firefox data". There isn't one. I have opened the folder where profiles are kept on my PC and found one that has files on it that date back to 2019, before the update, although I am not sure what to do with them, on the surface it doesn't look like there is anything with old data on it.

So if anyone has any ideas or knows where I can go with those profile files on my PC next I would appreciate it since the forums all seem to just ask people if they are there and to come back for additional help if they found anything.

Thanks in advance!

You can check this article:
Yes I did this already and unfortunately this did not recover my info, this is how I found 1 profile listed under the

appdata>local>mozilla>firefox>profiles path that does not show up under about:profiles so I was hoping that may contain my lost info.

This one has older files in it so I am asking if anyone might know where I might find/recover those;

I am also aware of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile however I don't have an old firefox data folder anywhere nor can i find the proper .json files mentioned in that article.

The folders I do have listed under that profile are labeled- cache2, jumplistcache, personality-provider, safebrowsing, settings, shortcutcache, startupcache, and thumbnails

Thanks for the help!

What you listed above is a profile in the secondary location in "AppData\Local" used for storing temporary data like the disk cache. Useful profile data like bookmarks is only stored in a profile in the primary location in "AppData\Roaming", so if there aren't any useful profiles there then you are out of luck.

You can check if you have a C:\Windows.old folder with your Firefox profile data. You can check if you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop in case the Refresh feature in Firefox has been used and a new profile has been created.

You can look a utility to browse System Restore points.
