Hiya, So I have used the link below as a guide to get firefox to autoupdate on users computers via GPO.

Firefox is now crashing on multiple Computers, I think they might be crashing while trying to update themselves, as per GPO.

Any help please , crash report attached

Pick one or two units that are crashing. When posting the crash reports, label what unit the report is from.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

Please, Do not post a screenshot ! !

Bug 1567491 Opened 2 years ago No action was taken.

Basically a shutdownhang means something within Firefox is not responding or running slow.

Is this with all websites/pages, some, a few?

What were you doing at the time? surfing, watching a clip, reading something . . . .

I noticed the crashes occurred within two minutes of starting the browser.

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hiya, and sorry for the slow reply .

This crash is consistent across any computers with firefox installed on our corporate domain. It occurs while not even using firefox as it tries to update itself in the backgroud.

A few months ago I was tasked with making sure our browsers stayed up to date via GPO. I did a similar procedure for Google Chrome and Microoft Edge and they have been updating themselves (In the background) fine.

I am just wondering is this an admin rights issue ? All users are NOT local admin , just standard users. When the firefox browser is trying to update is it struggling to do so because the user is not a local admin ?

Chrome and Edge had similar issues, until their devleopment teams allowed update as non admin.

Procedure I used is below, and based on below articles, is there a better way to do this ?

1. Download and unzip the admx.zip 2. Open the Admx folder. 3. Copy firefox.admx and mozilla.admx and put them in your Policy Definitions folder. (Example: C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions) 4. In the /en-US folder, copy the firefox.adml and mozilla.adml files and put them in the en-US folder in Policy Definitions. (Example: C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US) 5. Open Group Policy and go to Computer Configuration Policies Administrative Template

I had to make 3 changes in GPO , see attached. Application Auto update Background updater Don’t check if default browser
