I've been able to setup several message filters that filter select messages into sub-folders of an InBox. I've done this for two separate email accounts. Now, to the issue; I have two different filters in one account, I can see the last filter I just created in the filter-management, but I don't see the first filter I created some time ago. The first filter works, filtering the designated messages into to the selected folder, but I do not see any reference to it in the filter-management whereby I can EDIT, or DELETE it.

Given that this filter was one of the first I made when I was unfamiliar with the process, could I have inadvertently created some kind of ghost, or temporary filter? Can anyone suggest a means to locate the filter for editing, or deletion?

Thanks X.

BTW: In the help file for creating message-filters it says: "Click the Application menu button, and then Message Filters." Message Filters are not directly under the menu-button, they are in the "Tools" option under the menu-button.

Filters are defined for each account. At the top of the Message Filters window, select each account and see if the missing filter was created for a different account.

Thanks for the suggestion; but I already tried that to no avail, it doesn't seem to show up in any accounts.

If you have a backup of the profile folder, look for the msgFilterRules.dat files in the account subfolders of the Mail or ImapMail folders. The dat files can be viewed in a text editor, and can be copied between accounts and from the backup into the current profile.

Hi sfhowes,

I've found several msgFilterRules.dat files, I'm searching to see if any contain the rogue rule; I will also check my backups to see if it exists there.

Not anymore I hope. At least in the en_us localization of the web site.
