Why is it every time I Bookmark a new website it only goes into a "Other Bookmarks" and will not let me select where I want it to be saved? Every time I save a new website as a Bookmark it gets saved to "Other Bookmarks" and I do not get the option to select where I want it to be saved. Even if I open Bookmarks Organizer it will not let me drag the new Bookmark to the folder I want it to be saved in. I even created a new folder in Bookmarks and cannot delete it now. I saved (2) new Bookmarks from your website in the hopes it was just a filter until the website could be verified but, even bookmarking "Use bookmark folders to organize..." and "Contacts, Spaces, and Communities-Contact Us..." were saved to this "Other Bookmarks" and cannot be moved.

By default, new bookmarks are saved into the "Other Bookmarks" folder.

However, when you save the bookmark, a popup window should appear that allows you to edit the folder that the bookmark is stored in, along with the name and other information about the bookmark.

If you don't see that popup, it's likely that you accidentally disabled it from automatically appearing. In that case, when you are on the bookmarked website, you can click the blue star in the right-side of the Firefox address bar. This should make the popup appear.

If you want this popup to appear each time you save a Firefox bookmark, you can check the Show editor when saving option.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately this did not work or help. I tried ten different websites that I have saved as Bookmarks by clicking the blue star, and nothing happened. I tried ten different websites that I never had as book marks, and when I clicked the star it did nothing...didn't turn blue, didn't open a pop-up, and added a site by creating a bookmark and it went straight to the "other bookmarks" again. I still cannot even move or delete bookmarks from that folder or location. Still working on it...

Are you saying the problem has changed and you can't add any new bookmarks at all?

On the earlier suggestion: this checkbox --

<center></center>

-- has a corresponding preference, so you also can switch it this way:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste editDial and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks preference is bolded and has a value of false, double-click it to restore the default value of true

No still can add bookmarks but, they still go to the Other Bookmarks and the pop up to allow me to select where I want them to go does not appear. Last post said to try clicking on the blue star and making the change that way by checking the box, but nothng happens when I click the blue star either. As for making the browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks true it was not bold and already true. This whole thing started a month or so ago, about to just reinstall Firefox and start from scratch.

Before starting from scratch, you could consider testing in Firefox's Safe Mode. In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

I was already uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it...works correctly now just added a website that I have never been to before as a bookmark and the pop up opened allowing me to select where it goes. Strange thing though the "new folder" and Firefox pages I saved that did go to the "other bookmarks" location are now gone. Either way thanks for all your input.

Are/were you using Sync to sync the bookmarks as that cab be a possible cause ?
