"crash details" is unfortunately not helpful.
Please post your crash IDs here as text per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports

dang i don't have them anymore. i just figured out a way to get it back working. i took out the profile folder, deleted thunderbird, reinstalled, put the profile folder back and i didn't have to re-add all my mailboxes/rules.
i'll post next time if it happens.

that sounds good will it make the trick if I export, uninstall, install & import?
i couldn't export because thunderbird wouldn't start at all. so my only resort was trying to get it running without having to re-add my profiles again and recreate my rules. apparently just moving out the profile folder and reinstalling thunderbird + moving back the profile folder worked.
It's sometimes a good idea to not delete data from your computer, but copy or rename the directories so you have them for future diagnosis.
Anyway, if you do crash in the future please post your crash IDs in the topic before doing anything. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports
Thanks
