Firefox will not move at all on the system settings on proxy. If I can choose automatic, I can use this browser, otherwise the browser fails to respond at all. However, when I go in for my choice, it refuses to allow it and just allows system settings. How can I change this so I can use the browser??

Are you using the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52?

Could you check whether any of your proxy settings show "locked" here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste prox and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If any preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set", or italicized and "locked", which one(s) are they?

Also, if the problem is that you are behind a company proxy server and you get untrusted connection errors, the resolution for that is different. For example: Firefox still won't work, Zscaler & corporate certificate.

jscher2000: did what you said, but but nothing is bolded or italicized or marked user set

If you keep the about:config page open and make your change on the Options page in another tab, after you click OK to save the change, do you see modified preferences in about:config? If so, does they "stick" the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again?
