HDD failure: attempting to "import" appdata

Hi,

My HDD failed and I was able to recover appdata (sorry, if that's not the correct term). I saved the following directory from my old computer: C:/Users/Scott-Laptop/appdata/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/pzf9mpju.default-1493336782321/

I installed Firefox and went to the same directory on the new computer and installed: pzf9mpju.default-1493336782321

Firefox loaded and created a new profile: 7eey2pz1.default, of course, without my bookmarks, etc.

I deleted it and renamed my "old" user data: pzf9mpju.default

Firefox loaded and created a new "7eey2pz1.default" directory. I deleted all of the directories and files inside and then copied all of the directories and files from my old user data into it, i.e. I kept the new directory name and pasted the old data into it.

I loaded Firefox and my bookmarks, etc. still didn't load. Firefox did not create another newer directory.

Did I save the correct directory and files? If yes, can I get Firefox to load using them?

I attached a screenshot of the files in the directory...it shows all of the directories and only a partial list of the files.

Need any other information?

hi, your screenshot appears to show the correct contents of your user profile, however it has to go to C:/Users/Scott-Laptop/appdata/Roamning/...

Note that Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder. Location used for the main profile in "AppData\Roaming" that keeps your personal data.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files in "AppData\Local".

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Just to make sure I understand correctly: I copied the contents of my main profile data into "...\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla..." and just let Firefox create the files in "...AppData\Local\Mozila.."

Is that the correct procedure or do I need to do something to the folder(s) or files in Local to have them sync properly, find the disk cache for deletion, etc.? Everything seems to be functioning fine.

I've attached screenshots of both folders.

Also, thanks for link to the Profile Manager. I clicked on several links in it and the subsequent links. Hopefully, I'm learning something.

Yes. That is correct. Firefox will automatically create a folder structure in "AppData\Local" when you start Firefox. You only need to restore your personal data in the "AppData\Roaming" location.
