Takes too long to open a pop-up window
I use lots of web sites that will have Javascript (or Firefox directly) open up a new window when I click on certain things. The UPS site, for example, does this when I create a shipment. As of a week or two, those windows are taking a very long time to show up, up to a minute or two. I tried refreshing Firefox, but it doesn't seem to have helped. (Sync almost immediately reinstalled my add-ons, I believe!)

Use this link to check that your plugins are up-to-date. If any are listed as unknown or research, do not worry about them.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
Thanks. I had already tried both before the more radical "refresh" option. No difference.
As a test, disable your protection programs.
Do you mean virus protection? Or what?
Yes. This is only a test. Log in, then out after the check.
I attempted to do this today, because I had several UPS shipments to make. I turned off every security thing in Norton 360, but that does not seem to have made anything faster.
The UPS page has the feature that when you hit "ship now" it opens a new page and tries to pop up a window with a printable label. That page also has a "print" button, in case one needs to print the label again. If I hit "ship now" and then (having gotten impatient) hit that "print" button, the two requested windows pop up almost simultaneously, but take maybe 30 seconds or more to do so.
Main upshot, though: turning off various security things doesn't seem to matter.
Are you using any kind of blocking software / add-ons? Disable them.
Type about:preferences#content<enter> in the address bar Under Content turn on Block pop-up windows. To its right, press Exceptions. List any sites that you do not want pop-ups to be blocked.
Remove History For One Site Open the History Manager <Control><Shift> H. In the search bar, enter the name of the site. Right click on one of the listings and select Forget About This Site. This should remove all information, including any passwords / settings.
Disabled adblock. Cleared the history for the relevant sites; no change. This really does look like it's related to javascript.
Did you try to disable Sync?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
