My address book was hijacked. Cleared virus, reloaded Tbird. Changed password. Gmail account now accessible online. But Tbird will not accept new password, which is saved properly. I have other addresses which are all accessible and download to Tbird. All settings are correct for all accounts. Why is Tbird still rejecting download with 78754 error message

If you access your gmail account using various devices like phone, computer, laptop etc, then you could to set up a 'Two step verification' for the devices. If you choose 'Two step verification' then you will need to generate 'an application specific password' to use in Thunderbird.

If you only use Thunderbird on your computer to access mail then you can choose the 'Less secure apps' option.

However.... Thunderbird now includes the option to use OAuth2 for 'Authentication Method' incoming and smtp outgoing, so you could try setting that option in Account Settings.

Thanks Mr Toad-Hall That was a winner - downloaded immediately with OAuth2 certificate.
