How to suppress quoted text in messages
I understand that dedicated newsreaders have a command to suppress all quoted material in messages. This could be very useful when people bottom post but don't edit. Even some private emails contain a great deal of stuff that one does not necessarily wish to include in a reply. Is there any way to suppress quoted material in Thunderbird?

see here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reply-above-or-below-quoted-text when selecting the signature location, you first have to choose to quote or not quote.
Note that you can customize the compose windows toolbar to add a quote icon that will insert quotes of the last email viewed before it is pressed.
