How can I temporarily suppress signatures to new e-mails, other than just deleting it actively?

In answering any e-mails, keeping the text, I would like to not repeat my signature; exchanging e-mails a few times causes quite a string of repeat signatures, unnecessarily. How do I do that without actively removing them in the next e-mail answer?

There are tick box settings, in each account, under 'Tools - Account Settings - Composition & Addressing ' that enables/disables the appearance of the signature in replies or forwarded mail.

At the bottom of messages, just above the signature, are some characters '-- '. Some users like to remove them as they think it is not stylish. They do not understand that this sequence is the signature separator, and is important to Thunderbird and other sophisticated email readers It appears on its own line, as a 'dash', 'dash' and 'space', with nothing else on the line.

Thunderbird interprets anything after this special group as a signature and strips it away during a reply (or at least it should). If the signature separator is not present or is not formed correctly, you often see a nesting of signatures and another one may be added with each new reply, ad nauseum.

Sometimes, if you see multiple signatures, the fault may lie with the recipient. His reader may not strip away the signature when he replies back to your message.
