Windows 7 TB profile on old pc doesn't work with Win 10 TB on new pc
I have a new pc running Windows 10. I'm trying to migrate my TB profile form the old pc which runs Windows 7. When I copy just copy the old pc TB profile to the new PC, TB does not seem to recognize it. I even tried letting TB create a new profile on the new pc, then replace it with the old pc profile, keeping the profile name the same as the new profile name. I.e., just replacing the contents of the newly created profile with that of the old profile.
The problem is that none of the old profile info seems to be used. In particular, none of the folder structure for the 4 accounts I have appears.
I'm thinking there must have been a restructuring of the profile in the Windows 10 version compared to the Windows 7 version. Is there a way to migrate my data without having to recreate it manually?
Thanks, Tim

Thunderbird XP and Thunderbird window10. The skin does change, but that is all.
I have heard however that on some windows 0 machines that have not received this weeks cumulative update that you must reset the network adapter to get programs other than edge to access the internet.
Are you saying that TB on Windows 10 on my new pc should have used the same profile I had been using on the Windows 7 on my old pc?
Yes I am saying that. Unlike the updates from XP to Vista I am not aware of any underlying path changes in Windows either that may cause issues. Do you have parts of your profile stored in a customized location, like my documents?
Could you type %appdata%\Thunderbird into the search box on the start menu and press enter What is the path that is opened?
in that folder should be a file profiles.ini. Open it in a notepad Could you past the information it contains to a message here?

Matt, thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure what I'd done wrong earlier. Just for kicks, I tried once again to copy the TB profile from the old machine to the new one, and brought up TB. To my surprise and delight, it used this profile, and I'm now a happy camper.
I've done this migration many times in the past, and I've been a TB user since it was split out from the browser, so I have a lot of history with Mozilla. I guess even software engineers occasionally blow it :-)
Thanks again, Tim
