I have two email accounts running in Thunderbird, one Yahoo, the other MyKoLab. Most of the time, they run smoothly. But sometimes, when I turn on Thunderbird I get an error message telling me it can't connect to MyKoLab. (It can connect to Yahoo.) I go to Firefox and I can login to my email account at MyKoLab, no problem, but Thunderbird can't make the connection. I quit Thunderbird and turn it on again, sometimes it works, but sometimes it just keeps telling me again and again that it can't connect to MyKoLab -- even though the internet connection is fine, Thunderbird can connect to Yahoo, and I can access MyKoLab through Firefox. I haven't changed my settings or my master login. Any idea how to fix this, or is it a bug? I'm using the latest version of Thunderbird on Mac OS10.9.4.

It could also be a problem with their email server.

I don't see how it could be a problem with Mykolab's email server if I'm able to effortlessly login to my email account through Firefox, but not through Thunderbird. Half an hour later, after repeated tries, I can get in using Thunderbird.

Email servers and webmail servers are two different things. Also it is not like your provider only has one server. Unless it is your Uncle running email out of his garage. There could be a bad server in the providers server rack.
