You have not provided full troubleshooting information so I can not see what you have changed. Pre-Release versions of Firefox do now have a search bar on the default newtab page but Firefox 30 does not have.

Please also say what actions you are taking to open the newtab or blank tab. Also compare the pages you get when you navigate to

• about:blank
• about:newtab
• about:support { That is an alternative method of opening the page mentioned in the instructions under.)

Just key the name into the address bar and use the Return/Enter key

To find the correct solution to your problem, we require some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:

1. Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information.
2. Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
3. At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.

Firefox ver is 30.0

1. I click on the + tab 2. A tab opens up labelled "New Tab". In that New Tab page there is :

• • A Search Bar (this is where I type in a search and it returns a Yahoo Search page)
    • And the Tiles of the most recently or pin'd sites I visit

Now I type in, per your instructions, about:newtab in address bar and now it returns the old style New Tab appearance and Tiles in the Firefox versions before Ver 29. (Interesting). Frankly I like this GUI better than the new Gui in Ver 29 and 30 for the New Tab layout.

Possibly you may have some unexpected changes caused by speedial, or possibly by software bundled with it. Note your details include

You could also have other malware or adware installed.

• AdwCleaner is trusted. It is often may mentioned on this forum and may well deal with removal of this speed dial software / adware
• The search reset addon will return settings to default states and again is trusted software (IIRC writtern by a Mozilla Firefox developer) The extension installs. Resets Firefox settings, and uninstalls itself. It is far easier than manually resetting things yourself.
• If you actually have speedial installed they have uninstall information on their site http://www.getspeedial.com/how-do-i-remove-speedial/

Note also you have a user.js file

user.js Preferences Your profile folder contains a user.js file, which includes preferences that were not created by Firefox.

If you do have malware installed you will need to find and remove that. If the user.js file was not created by you or an application you trust that may be making changes you do not want. The file may be re-created but you can test its effect by renaming. (Do not delete it unless you are certain it is being created by malware.) Note it is a plain text file and usually fairly short . If it is renamed to user.js-old.txt it should be possible to open it, and examine it with any standard text reader or word processor.

It may just be the speedial extension causing your issues or you may also have other adware or outright malware on the machine.
