In the new Nightly 28, the back/forward button is just to the left of the address window, whereas it used to be at the left end of the navigation bar. How can I move it to where I want it?

Firefox 29.0 is Not a Release as it is on the Beta channel. It is currently at 29.0 Beta 2 and there can be say six to twelve Beta builds for each Release version.

Firefox 28.0 has been the current Release since March 18.

If you want to continue using the Fx 29.0 Beta builds then see these two Extensions.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/

Also a note, no Release version of Firefox will give a update prompt to a Beta build so either you are on Beta channel due to installing a Beta version at some point or you installed the 29.0 Beta you are using. To get back on Release channel you can install the Firefox 28.0 release.

By default it shows only the back button, after your started moving around pages the forward button enables.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Sorry, the Back/Forward button is attached to the Location Bar (address window) in Australis UX and can't be separated in the Customize mode.

Firefox 28 is slated for Release on 2014-03-18, so extension developers have 4 months to come up with features to revert to the previous user interface bit-by-bit. Here's a new extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ - that reverts certain features in Australis back to close to the current interface, but this extension doesn't include a feature to separate the Back/Forward button from the Location Bar.

note: Australis was pushed back to Firefox 29

Thank you. At least I understand exactly what the issue is, and I can hope that someone will come up with an extension that allows separation of the back/forward button and the location bar.

Did you look in the options of the Classic Theme Restorer extension?

There you should see a check-box to have a Movable back-forward button showing in the Customize window.

Perfect solution - thank you, Cor-el. I have Classic Theme Restorer, but had overlooked that option.

I don't have 28 but 29 and there is no back-forward I can see i the customize window, it only has a few things but back-forward is not olne of them. I would like to have them on the FAR LEFT before someone messed with it for rel 29. I did add addon Classic theme...... but that just put BOXES on the buttons but left them there. Is there a way or do I go back to an old release again.

I went to rel 29 and now SORRY,, what release gets rid of this crappy Australis UX? rel 27?? I will try to go back until firefox gets back its "flexible customization"

I thought PROGRESS was when they GAVE us customization, not when you remove flexibility.

Anyone know what happened to the RELOAD button in REL 29 you could put on the Toolbar?

I tried to say on rel 25 as long as I could and had no intentions of going any higher because of good Add-ons not staying up.

But I kept being bugged to upgrade and all I did was hit OK and I got 29.

According to what you said, I should NOT have gotten 29 but 28?

Once you are on the beta update channel (Help > About) you will stay there and receive updates for the beta channel.
To switch the update channel to release you can install the full release version.
You can't do this by modifying the app.update.channel pref.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox 28.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

Thanks, I found an old release of 25.01 and really like it as it is compatible with most add-on. Will stay with 25 as long as possible as I see nothing but aggravation and no improvements with 28 or 29 on.
